Wisdoms and Self
Anpanman
One of the most profound BTS song for me is “Anpanman.” In short, it is about being a reluctant superhero, because you don’t feel adequate for the job but at the same time, you feel the responsibility to do the job because you’re the only one with the tools to do the job, as the lyrics go:
“I’m really not sure whether that even makes sense/But mom, I really need to do it/Who’s gonna do it if it isn’t me?”
Unlike their Western capitalist counterparts, who view success as entitlements that come with certain sets of rights, BTS view success as gifts that come with responsibilities. This message is consistent with Confucian and ancient Native American teachings. When we are blessed with something, we have the responsibility to help others. It’s non-negotiable. It’s karmic laws.
So what are your blessings and what responsibilities do you have with them? Who is going to do it if it isn’t you?
