Suffering is Needed for Creation
I don't believe in "negativity" and "positivity." For me, there are only 3 states of existence: destructive, creative, and the mediocre middle.
When I am in a state of what society would call "happy" or "positive vibes only," I am in the mediocre middle. I create nothing, or the things I create are also mediocre by my standards.
When I am in a state of what society would call "negative" or "depressed," the energy I channel towards creation and/or destruction is intense and the results are superior to mediocre. Mind you, "destruction" does not have to be thoughtlessly destructive. Tearing down of old dogmas to make room for new ideas, destroying invasive species to make room for new life...are all forms of "thoughtful destruction."
Think back to artists who created their most magnificent works and what state of their lives they were in when they created these world-changing works? Vincent Van Gogh, Edvard Munch, Viktor Frankl, Eminem, Adele....
That said, I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with existing in the "mediocre middle" either. We can't be constantly intense. We can't constantly churn out the greatest works of our lives. That would be exhausting and impossible. "Mediocre middle" is a necessary punctuation, a resting period if you will, in order to prepare us for the next wave of destructions/creations.
The purpose is not to get rid of suffering and be rainbow and sunshine, nor to unnecessarily seek out suffering. The key is to embrace our suffering and channel it towards the greatest works of our lives. Nietzsche gets it.
