I Miss You More Than I Remember You

“I miss you more than I remember you.”

I learned knitting from my grandmother, you know. In her unorthodox way, she taught me techniques that I can never explain back to anyone else, mainly because there’s nothing structured about her techniques. Not like the “knit one pearl two” instructions from the book. I intuitively knit, without any structure, without any instructions. When you learn from an unconventional source, you do that thing unconventionally.

Why do I knit socks? Because that was the last thing she taught me. Why don’t I knit gloves? Because she passed away before she could teach me. Surely I can figure it out myself. I’m smart and I’ve always figured out how to do things myself. So why haven’t I figured out how knit gloves?

“I miss you more than I remember you.”
