My mom told me a story of a beggar who approached her one time for money.  Upon learning that she was a teacher, he simply smiled and walked away.  Because he knew she had less money than he did.

But I also witnessed many times, how she refused to accept any extra money that the students’ parents tried to sneak into her monthly payments.  “Hey, you gave me too much money,” she scolded.  “But Cô, if it weren’t for you, I don’t know what I would do.  No one else would teach my child,” the parent exasperated.

No one ever got away with giving her a cent extra.
