Wisdoms and Self
Take the Gift that Comes Easily to You
FUN FACT: when I was in high school, I spent 30 minutes writing a poem in rush because it was due at the last minute. Years later, I visited that teacher and she said she still used my poem as an example to teach her students on how to write poems.
That same year, the same teacher nominated me for the English Student of the Year award. All I had to do was turn in an essay for submission. I rolled my eyes, sigh, and reluctantly accepted. “Fine, but you know I don’t really like writing and I’m going to college for STEM because that makes a lot more money, right?” I wrote that essay in 30 minutes and turned it in without giving any thought. I won the award that year.
Looking back, I realize despite how many teachers urged me that I need to be writing, I didn’t really care for it because it was a gift I inherited from my ancestors that was bestowed so easily on me, that I took that gift for granted. Wisdom of the Day here being: whatever is the gift that came easily to you, is probably the gift you should nurture and foster. It doesn’t have to be more complicated than that.
