The Bougainvilleas and Childhood Contemplations
"Flaunting Beauty" ("Khoe Sắc") by artist Đình Thùy
I almost cried when I saw this breathtaking painting pop up on my feed and knew I had to reach out to the incredibly talented artist Đình Thùy, who is based in Vietnam. The meticulous attention he placed into each detail, right down to the subtle shadow that the morning sun casts on each delicate foliage, is simply astounding.
The Bougainvilleas centerpiece looks just like the ones my maternal grandfather planted at our old house in Bien Hoa.
I spent many afternoons resting on the balcony hammock, staring at the Bougainvillea vines tracing gracefully along the fading white sidings, papery thin pink and white petals gently fluttering with the summer breeze.
I guess you could say those were my meditating moments. Even as a child, I spent many hours just gazing into Nature while contemplating random questions and life observations. As you can see, not much has changed.
