Wisdoms and Art

Moonchild

This ethereal, nocturnal landscape on canvas from Amanda Graves was the first art work I acquired for my gallery, and was the beginning of my spiral down the art rabbit hole.

I named this piece "Moonchild," even though the Moon is nowhere displayed in the painting itself. The reason for the piece's namesake was the instant sentimental waves that washed over me upon my first sighting of her: the pleasant melancholy, the gloomy peace, the comforting sorrow that I am only allowed to indulge in when the suffocating Sun finally gives me a little bit of reprieve from his harsh, demanding blaze and the Moon can be seen peeking over the horizon with her soft, soothing glow.

I've always felt like a child of the night all my life, but I thought I was an oddity until I stumbled upon the song "Moonchild" by RM, who so eloquently encapsulated what I and other Moonchildren have struggled to express to the world:

"I’ll explain this song simply for you. People who prefer the night, during the day, they are feeling choked, whether it’s because of the job or something else. Then at night, they are getting away from others' eye, and getting away from the shackles. People who feel a sense of freedom. I think there will be lots of people like that, especially these days. People like me." - RM

So if you are a Moonchild, remember that you are not alone, for "We are each other's nightscape, each other's moon."
